From the Pastor: Updates

Dear TVBC Family,

Hope you are doing well on this Wednesday afternoon.

Here are just a few updates coming up I wanted to give some detail to for you.

Rev. Bryan Peters preaching this Sunday

My longtime best friend, Bryan Peters, will be bringing the message from Mark 2:1-11 this weekend.  Bryan and I met during our days at William Jewell and have been ministering together for over 15 years on the streets, in the classrooms, on the Internet, and in churches.

Bryan is currently finishing up his Master of Divinity at Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Although a seminary student, he also maintains a full-time job and time with his family—wife, Summer, and 14-month-old daughter, Anna.

Bryan will bring the Word with clarity, passion, and faithfulness to God.  You won’t want to miss the Word taught! Please be in prayer for him as he prepares and comes our way.

Grow Team Leader Nomination

After meeting Sunday, the EMT Leadership team has nominated Nelson Nissley to fill the open Grow Team leader position that has been vacant since April 2016.  The Grow Team leader is responsible for the education and training side of all Sunday school, small group, etc. ministries from a Gospel-centered, biblical standpoint—among other duties.

Nelson brings his God-given talents and gifts of administration, training / teaching, and mentoring to this position that have served him in ministry, most recently on a 20-month deployment in the Army chaplaincy.  His goal, he said, is to equip each leader and co-leader with the skills necessary to facilitate, by God’s grace and Spirit, spiritual growth in our congregation (and encourage those not in classes to come!).

Formally and officially as per our procedures, we will have a special-called business meeting on Sunday, March 12 after service to vote on Nelson in this capacity (needs a majority approval).  Please pray for God’s wisdom and leadership.  And thank you, Nelson, for your willingness to be considered, and, Lord willing, serve in this capacity.

New Members – Voting on March 12

At the same special-called business meeting on March 12, we will vote on several new members that have completed the new members’ class, had a pastoral interview, and submitted letters from sister churches.  Thank the Lord for how he is moving among us!

Facebook Live – Every Sunday from 8:30 – 9:15 PM

As always, please feel free to invite your friends, families, or neighbors to our gathering on our Facebook page ( at 8:30-9:15 PM on Sunday.

Many of you have asked what the impact has been? Hard to quantify, but in the 3 times we have done this, we had about 3,000 views and many skeptics / non-Christians joining us.  Please pray for fruit!

Questions submitted this week that we will answer include:

–“Why did God create to worship Him? That seems pretty selfish.”

–“Does God consider homosexual marriage valid in his eyes?”

–“When Jesus’ returns, will we, as the popular book said, be ‘Left Behind?’”

–“Why are there Christian hypocrites?”

It is joy to serve with you!
